With the evolution of Local Government continuing at pace, Colchester City Council approaches challenges both new and familiar with confidence and excitement.
We know we have to maximise the resources available for the critical services we provide; and we are building a bold, motivated and high-performing Finance team to deliver. With one eye on the pending local government reorganisation, and as the largest city in north east Essex, we believe the bar for outstanding financial performance can be raised and we’re looking for people with skills like yours to do it.
With services across the Council keen to engage with Finance and a Council-wide readiness to embrace transformation, we hope you’ll join us – bringing initiative, energy and accuracy to everything we do.
As Chief Executive, I’m delighted to welcome you to Colchester - a city with a rich heritage, a dynamic present, and an ambitious future. We’re proud of our identity and the communities we serve, and we’re preparing for an exciting period of change.
With Local Government Reorganisation on the horizon, we’re entering a transformative phase that will reshape how councils across Essex work together. It’s a pivotal moment - one that brings both challenge and opportunity. At Colchester, we’re embracing this change with confidence, and our Finance team will play a critical role in helping us navigate it successfully.
Finance is at the heart of everything we do. From enabling strategic decision-making to ensuring long-term sustainability, our Finance professionals are key to delivering high-quality services and driving innovation. As we prepare for the future, we’re looking for talented, forward-thinking professionals who want to make a real difference - people who are not only skilled in finance but also passionate about public service and innovation.
Whether you’re looking to join us from another council, the private sector, or just starting your career, Colchester offers the chance to grow, contribute, and thrive.
Thank you for considering Colchester City Council as your next career move.
Pam Donnelly, Chief Executive
Our aim is to elevate the role the Finance team play – even for us in the back office – by raising standards for everyone involved in delivering critical services to our residents across the City. There is an exciting, challenging and rewarding journey ahead of us.
After operating a Shared Service for Finance in recent years, the Council is now reshaping how we deliver the Finance and the finances. We are building a high-performing team with the innovation and ambition at its core to meet the challenges of today and laying the groundwork for tomorrow.
We know that the pending Local Government Reorganisation will create opportunities for our staff and our services, albeit it will come with some uncertainty but to be the high performers we want to be, we must embrace the challenge.
Those helping us deliver everything from genuine value-add Business Partnering, to smooth, accurate, best-in-class technical expertise can look forward to a career of opportunity, fulfilled ambition and professional pride.
With genuinely flexible working arrangements designed to bring the best from our talent, we are creating an environment which encourages proactivity and genuine transformation
I know this may not be for everyone but if this all resonates with you, please come and join us.
I’m looking forward to working with you.
Anna D’Alessandro, Interim Chief Financial Officer (S151)
