We are seeking an experienced Local Government Finance Specialist to support a wide range of finance related workstreams as we progress through Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). This interim role is ideal for someone who has operated in both unitary and district/borough environments and understands the practical, political, and operational realities of transition.
This role requires approx 2 days a week onsite working, and outside scope IR35 will be considered
Key responsibilities
• Lead and support finance workstreams linked to LGR, including consolidation, harmonisation, and transition planning.
• Provide expert advice on the financial implications of merging services, structures, and budgets across council tiers.
• Support project teams with modelling, scenario planning, and financial analysis.
• Develop and refine new financial processes, frameworks, and reporting arrangements suitable for a future unitary structure.
• Work collaboratively with finance leads across district, borough, and unitary councils to ensure alignment and consistency.
• Provide hands on support to operational finance teams during periods of transition and uncertainty.
You should have
• Strong experience in both unitary and district/borough councils.
• A proven track record of delivering finance projects, transformation, or change activity in local government.
• Full CCAB qualification (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
